What's a QR Code?
A QR code (or "Quick Response code" for the non tech-savvy) is a kind of 2D barcode. QR codes are becoming increasingly popular since they can store more data than a conventional barcode. Their faster read-time enables less powerful devices such as smartphones with QR apps to quickly access data through use of their built-in cameras. QR codes look very distinctive and are black square-like designs.
These codes were initially introduced in 1994 by Toyota so that they could track car-parts during automobile production. Crossing overseas from Japan, QR codes are quickly finding many uses outside of their primary remit. Whether in magazines or on web-pages QR codes have one simple goal: To rapidly deliver information to QR-capable devices!
You can already download a number of QR-scanning apps and utilities for smartphones and other mobile devices. Utilising QR codes can demonstrate technical knowledge and a view to the future. For example, you could choose to embed a URL to your businesses website on your business card by creating or generating a QR code.
